STRUCTURAL RIGGING
LS Ion
LS Ion is a Zylon (PBO) standing rigging
Used for lateral, as well as fore & aft standing rigging
Can be configured to match any specification:
-
Consolidated – Upper cables branch out from a single solid lower cable.
-
Continuous – Separate cable for each load path.
-
Linked – Each span is a separate cable, linked as spreader tips.

BUILD PROCESS
Advanced PBO Rod Technology
LS Ion is a high-performance, pultruded Zylon® (PBO) solid rod engineered for exceptional strength, durability and UV protection. The PBO core is reinforced with protective layers of Technora® aramid and carbon fibre, creating a sealed cable designed to withstand demanding marine environments. A final gloss-finish, UV-resistant urethane coating provides an additional layer of protection.

Precision Engineering and Multi-Layer Protection
The manufacturing process begins by sling-winding unidirectional PBO fibres using our state-of-the-art, custom-built winding machine. The fibres then pass through three consolidation dies, fusing the individual filaments into a single, solid rod engineered for consistent performance.
To protect against the high-speed friction and heat generated when running rigging, such as a sail sheet, passes over the cable, four layers of black Technora® are applied. This abrasion-resistant aramid layer is specifically selected to withstand the demanding conditions encountered on performance yachts.
A layer of carbon fibre is then applied to help shield the PBO core from short-wavelength ultraviolet radiation, including UVA and UVB. This protective outer structure is completed by bonding precision-engineered aluminum or titanium end fittings to the rod and applying a final UV-resistant urethane coating.
The result is LS Ion: a precision-engineered PBO rigging solution that combines high performance with robust abrasion resistance and multi-layer environmental protection.

This unique process produces a strong, tough and resilient cable that is impervious to fatigue, corrosion, UV and chafe damage. The end cones are light weight high grade aluminum, hard coat anodized, with titanium inserts, to isolate the stainless-steel terminal from the aluminum cone, preventing any possibly of galvanic corrosion.

INTEGRATION
The spreader integration is done using a molded carbon fiber fitting, which is bonded to the cable, creating a controlled curved surface for the cable to rest in, while matching the spreader tip, ensuring a perfect fit.
This method allows the product to be easily customized to every spreader tip arrangement. Depending on your current rigging setup, we can work to integrate LS Ion on any existing mast.
